Ed Schreyer frames the Canadian Parliament debacle very clearly:

“I'll put it this way and I will make this a plain-spoken sentence. Nothing should be done to aid and abet the evasion of submitting to the will of Parliament. I think one can stop there. It's about as basic as that.”

“The only emergency seems to be a desire [of the Harper government] to avoid facing Parliament. That is not an emergency.”

I'll further state my personal opinion: 7.5 million Canadians voted for either a Liberal, NDP or BQ candidate and only 5.2 million voted for a PC candidate. That's 163 freshly-minted MPs forming a legitimate coalition against 143 PC MPs. It represents the electorate's will and it's democracy at its best: compromise and unity against minority tyranny.
