HBM, Trump, the ultraright's ascendence and Mann's Magician

I am amazed of how obtuse HBM can be (to be kind) about the true anti-authoritarian message in Thomas Mann's Mario and the Magician. As contrast, back in August 2016, TNR had a good commentary on the similarities between the Trump persona and Thomas Mann's Magician.
