US: drought, nativism and irony
Nov. 5th, 2022 07:19 pmCNN has a front page story about Arizona's worst drought in 1,200 years and how Middle Eastern owners are sucking the water out of the local aquifers in order to grow alfalfa to ship to feed Saudi cows. It's a bit ironic that America sucks oil out of Middle East while Arabs are sucking water out of US soil. Sadly, the story does not mention that foreign ownership of US agricultural land is only 3% or that the foreigners in the story own only 10,000 farming acres out of 26,000,000 farming acres in Arizona, although I am sure that Arizonans feel it is worse than that.
