Class-aware criticism in Oscar contenders
Feb. 9th, 2020 06:59 amBBC has an interesting dissection of Oscar contenders from a class POV (and main snubs). We did see Knives Out and I can attest that the criticism is spot on. It boggles the mind that 1917 is the favourite: based on the trailer alone it looked very gimmicky and highly staged. I don't know why I am surprised by the choices of a film industry that is fully encapsulated in Disney's takeover of Star Wars and promise of new sequels to be released at regular two year intervals.
