Diana Longinova and Noize MC protest song

Today I found out that Diana Longinova was arrested late last year and again this year for singing in public near a subway station in St Petersburg a protest song by Noize MC (and she eventually had to leave the country due to her impending persecution). Here is a live 2023 recording of the original protest song and here are the song’s lyrics:

Sadly, that is not a coincidence, but I smelled this convergence right after 9/11 when everyone started wearing that little flag lapel pin, domestic surveillance went on steroids and the response to a historical wake-up call was highjacked into doubling down on military interventions.

I certainly can't disagree with you there, sadly.  Few places do performative nationalism like we do.

Well, performative nationalism is more ferocious in a few places (e.g. Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Pakistan, India), but that is a really sad tell about Murica’s place amongst the world “democracies”.
