Canadian Healthcare dysfunction
Jan. 5th, 2021 10:07 amI missed the original story when it came out in July, but Grant Robertson (The Globe and Mail) posted an update just before New Year's. It's sad to find out that important public health decisions were slowly taken over by bureaucrats with no medical expertise whatsoever. Yes, the GPHIN dismantling started during Harper I, but it did accelerate under Trudeau II, so both PCs and Libs are equally incompetent on this file. The silver lining is that after more than one year of silence, GPHIN reactivated its alerts in August 2020.
COVID-19 in Canada:
1. Provincial attempts at controlling the spread vary widely with NT,PE,NL,NB,NS,YT performing the best and MB,AB,QC the worst by many orders of magnitude (in cases per million).
2. Ontario is slower in administering the vaccine when compared to the other provinces.
3. LTCH impact is probably amongst the worst in the world, with an estimated 80% of the COVID-19 death toll being seniors in care facilities as of late April and similarly as of late May compared to an average of 42% for other OECD countries).
Mental health handling issues:
1. Patients with mental health issues are denied care for physical problems.
2. 1 in 5 Ontario children have mental health issues, yet children of immigrants are less likely to access the care they need.
