In many belief systems, prophets often revive old religions, rewrite the script and, due to their often ambiguous dictums and constant oral retellings/interpretations (and written edits/translations), their teachings become simulacra and lead to cargo cultism.
Perfect examples within Christianity are the misogyny built into it almost right from the beginning and still present, the continuous splintering of the Church, liturgy in a dead language (for many centuries), the evolution of the Catholic sect, the avarice of the Church and meddling in worldly affairs, the constant emphasizing of form (i.e. rituals) over function (i.e. doing good), the heretic purges and mass murders of infidels, the excommunications, the Crusades, the Inquisitions and Witch Trials, the Slave Bible, the pedophilia, and more recently the Prosperity Gospel (and predictable opulence of its pushers).
To be fair, the above flaws apply almost equally to all other religions that are mono-theistic and/or center around prophets.
