As I was driving to the train station and listening to NPR Hidden Brain’s Us 2.0 episode on Abraham Lincoln, and the host talking about the quasi-vegetarian dilemma of quitting meat cold turkey or cheating regularly due to cultural inheritance or rationalizing away morality, I spotted a lone swan flying overhead at 6:30am (and the nearby ubiquitous circling seagulls) and remembered all the swans I spotted flying in the morning in the past weeks. It made me realise that one of the many things that is different here from many other places I lived before is the abundance of migrating swans (and many other waterfowl which I usually spot at the nearby marina). I am now on the train staring at the car’s windowless corner (as a precaution for all the recent outbreaks) and thinking about Divertis skit “Asociația crescătorilor de animale mici fără frontiere”.
